Father’s Day Weekend

After a mentally draining and tiring week in the office, my weekend quickly refocused on the most important aspects of my life: my family.

Saturday morning started off with Easton waking me up with his usual tactic of pulling on my earlobes with his itty bitty fingers. Half awake, he presented me with the coolest father’s day gift I’ve ever received: matching lowercase “e” and uppercase “E” shirts.

Claire, thoughtful as ever, then rushed us out the house to head off for a wonderful getaway in Napa. This is exactly what I needed. While Easton took his nap in the car, Claire and I had an opportunity to reignite our dreams and discover new ways of achieving them. Somehow, I feel like I can accomplish anything after we have these talks.

Our first stop was Redd. Although they didn’t have any high chairs (WTF!?!?!), Easton cooled Daddy down and gave this spot the “open mouth” (aka thumbs up) after checking out the menu.

After a ridiculously awesome meal…

Yellowfin tuna and hamachi tartare, avocado, chili oil, fried rice
Glazed pork belly, apple purée, burdock, soy caramel
Braised beef shortrib, horseradish crust, potato purée, early spring vegetables
Strawberry tasting: french toast, float, s’mor
Peanut butter · milk chocolate gianduja, peanut honeycomb parfai

…I was lights out at a park in downtown Sonoma. Easton is clearly an energizer bunny here fully awake.

Thanks for the fwd Bea.

The federal government is sending each and every one of us a $600 rebate.

If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, the money will go to China.
If we spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs.
If we purchase a computer it will go to India.
If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.
If we purchase a good car it will go to Japan.
If we purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan…and none of it will help the American economy.

The only way to keep that money here at home is to buy prostitutes, weed, beer, and tattoos, since these are the only products still produced in the USA.

Can you believe it, Easton is now 7 months? I think this will be my opening line for a while until I can come up with something clever to say about how he is growing REALLY FAST. And it’s not just me. His friends from Gymboree level 2 who sees him every month says so, too…especially teacher Mykie who’s been teaching him since he was 4 months in Level 1. He now eats solid for instance, well a month and a half ago. I was afraid at first that he won’t like it and Maria said to force the first few feedings so he can really taste it and now he LOVES it!…hence the additional pound he’s gain in a month. He is more of a chubster as ever…the funniest thing was when Connie said, “wow, his face is really round!”…heheheh, really we don’t mind you calling our porkster, chubby, fat, rolly pollie…and I’m even starting to get used to the phrase, “he really looks like Eddie”. I don’t care what you say, I think he looks like me sometimes =D. He is also sitting up on his own, clapping his hands and whacking the heck out of his band/piano ensemble toy. He babbles almost all the time that he’s up and loves watching the nursery rhymes on Baby On Demand. He will laugh at any new word he hears or laughing along with his daddy hysterically. HE is really one Happy kid and we’re soooo lucky. He is starting to like swim class with Daddy and learning to splash. He is just as charming as ever with his smiles (when he’s had a long nap), and mind you he is learning how to kiss, ok more like licking mommy’s face…which I’m fine with. Things in the “stay at home mommy department” have gotten into groove, our routine is (unless Mommy finds something cool to do) Monday and Friday, Om Noi and Ba Nhoi visits to play with Easton while Mommy cleans or run errands, Tuesday – Gymboree and Swim class, Wednesday and Friday – public library Bouncing Babies Class, Thursday – either have lunch with Daddy or meet Daddy at Baccio Cafe (who has the best Decaf Mocha in town and will maybe have a sandbox for the kiddies someday =D) for Happy Hour. Like that plug Bern and Nico? =D

We drove down to Monterey this morning for family day. At first I thought visiting the aquarium was a silly idea…”Easton’s not going to know what’s going on.” Boy was I wrong. Easton was completely engaged with all the colorful sea life: talking to them, reaching out to touch them, staring at them. I think the jellyfish was his favorite exhibit.
